Marc Lalique
Model created in 1953
Pressed crystal
Property of Lalique SA
On his father’s death in 1945, Marc Lalique took over the family business. He began by rebuilding the Wingen-sur-Moder factory, which had suffered during the war, and progressively introduced crystal through the 1950s. This decision changed the image projected by the name: with the move from glass to crystal, Lalique became synonymous with luxury.
This crystal Horse’s head illustrates the changes introduced by Marc Lalique. The sparkle and purity of crystal tolerate zero imperfections, and a piece such as this one requires perfect technical mastery at every stage.
By the way: while women, flora and fauna remained the essential sources of inspiration for René Lalique’s successors, shapes and styles evolved. The clean lines of this piece are simpler than the earlier Lalique creations, and correspond to the taste of the times.
