Antique Amber Perfume Bottle

Creator: René Lalique
Date: 1910
Materials: Patinated glass
Lalique Museum collection

Female figures were one of René Lalique’s most treasured themes: this perfume bottle features four young women dressed in the antique style carrying flowers. Each figure is slightly different, but they all have a reddish brown patina on the moulded silhouettes that enhances the motif appearing in bas-relief on very fine, acid-etched frosted glass.

By the way: this was the third piece René Lalique designed for the famous perfumer, François Coty. The encounter with Coty was a milestone in René Lalique’s career, as Lalique had previously been renowned as a jeweller.
