Pressed glass with patina, metal mechanism
Property of the Lalique Museum
In France, people give lily of the valley as a gift on the 1st of May: the little white bell-shaped flower symbolises love, happiness and friendship. It inspired René Lalique for his jewellery creations and a variety of other items such as vases, glasses and picture frames. Suzanne Lalique-Haviland also designed a number of glass jewellery pieces featuring a lily of the valley motif.
This small clock’s blue patina enhances the transparency of the flowers and brings out the pure quality of their whiteness.
The automatic Swiss mechanism requires winding once a week, hence the clock’s name.
By the way: According to Nicole Maritch-Haviland (Suzanne Lalique-Haviland’s daughter and René Lalique’s granddaughter), the lily of the valley was her grandfather’s favourite flower.
