Created in 1929
The young couturier, Lucien Lelong (1889-1958) created a perfume house in 1924. His wife, Nathalie Paley, was a cousin of Tsar Nicolas II, and one of Lelong’s models for his couture creations. Together they opened two stores on the other side of the Atlantic, one in Chicago and the other in New York.
For his elegant but sporty clients, he commissioned René Lalique to design a bottle reminiscent of America’s skyscrapers. The frosted glass bottle featured delicately protruding festoons enhanced with black enamel. The chromed metal and enamelled case had a square structure with truncated corners and a lid whose design matched the bottle. The perfume bottle was part of a set including powder cases, combs, brushes and mirrors.
