In 1910, René Lalique began working with Roger & Gallet, designing perfume bottles and advertising hoardings. He also designed the perfumery stand for the 1925 Exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts.
The stand was lit by a chandelier in the shape of a basket full of flowers that overflowed onto the walls. The glass flowers illuminated the predominantly black and silver creation that was admired by some critics for its simplicity and elegance or alternately judged as dark and funereal.
