Created circa 1912

The Athletes panel was inspired by those in the private mansion of Jacques Doucet, the famous couturier and patron of the arts, for whom René Lalique had created a double door with six panels, each with a different composition, and eight panels with floral motifs. For his own mansion on Cours Albert 1er, which he designed in 1902, René Lalique had designed a door with a smaller version of the athlete theme, which he also used for other pieces, particularly for vases.
