« Colour was not given to man to imitate nature, but to express our emotions ».
Henri Matisse
Happy Cristal has become a must for visitors to the Lalique Museum. Families come to admire the new fairy-tale scenes prepared together with the Maison Lalique.
The permanent collections focus more on Art Nouveau jewellery and glass, so from the first edition in 2012, this annual event chose to give pride of place to Lalique crystal. It was not until after René Lalique’s death in 1945 that the family firm began to evolve from glass to crystal.
For this 10th edition, welcome to a bright and colourful Christmas! When we think of crystal, and particularly of Lalique crystal, the first thing that comes to mind is the contrast between its colourless transparency and satin sheen. But over the years, numerous pieces have been designed in a whole range of colours, ranging from powder pink to blue, green and black. From the workshop of an Art Deco artist dedicated to black and white, colour began to seep through. In the words of Francis Bacon, « All colours will agree in the dark. »
Admission to the temporary exhibition is free (admission charges remain valid for the permanent collections)
