René Lalique
1924
Pressed glass, Peugeot mechanism
Property of Shai Bandmann & Ronald Ooi

René Lalique’s contribution to the world of tableware consisted of magnificent surtouts (table centrepieces), fine table services and ornately decorated glasses. Smaller items and accessories also featured among the artist’s tableware creations, such as knife rests, menu holders, oil and vinegar cruets and this pepper mill. No detail was too small to allow elegant dining rooms to benefit from the refinement of Lalique design.

The body of the Feuilles peppermill is made of frosted glass, decorated with leaf motifs. The Peugeot mechanism is visible, making it a feature of the design.

By the way:  This is the only commercially available René Lalique peppermill, and currently exists in a crystal version.
