Perch, trout, cyprins and scalaires, herrings and sardines… the fish that inspired René Lalique were of all shapes and sizes, colours and species. They adorned items of jewellery, boxes, vases, epergnes and radiator caps, but the most famous is without doubt the Poisson seal.
Created in 1912, the year in which Lalique gave up his career as a jeweller to devote himself totally to glass, it is one of the first mass-produced pieces. Just 4.5 cm high, it could be customised, with the customer’s coat of arms engraved on the base.
By the way: It has practically never been out of production since its creation, and is now available in over 30 colours including blue, yellow, red, black and transparent. It has also been done in more fashionable colours such as anise green or mauve, and more recently in luster crystal versions.
